The Whole Thing Together

Title: The Whole Thing Together
Author: Ann Brashares
Main Characters: Sasha, Ray
Setting: New York
Book Length: 306 Pages
Summary: Sasha and Ray are on opposite sides of the same family- but due to the raging family war, they have never even met. This book details their journey parallel to each other.

Buckle up, it's about to get real. This book was SO FRUSTRATING! It jumped between POVs too quickly and (in the e-arc at least) didn't give much hint into what POV you were now reading. Plus, there were way too many side characters given unrelated POVs and that distanced me from the characters. I felt I couldn't become close to any of the characters because out of nowhere it would be someone else's POV! It was extremely predictable, contained sexual-like incest, and just wasn't very interesting.

* Warning: There are abundant curse words throughout the novel. Read at your own discretion. *

Title: Heartless
Author: Marissa Meyer
Main Characters: Cath, Jest
Setting: Wonderland
Book Length: 453 pages
Summary: This is the origin story of the Queen of Hearts. All Cath wants to do is own a bakery. But, her parents want her to marry the King, who is much older and is someone who Cath can't imagine herself falling in love with. Whilst being courted by the King, Cath meets the mysterious Jest, who she falls in love with. However, who knows how this story will end, for, in Wonderland, nothing is ever as it seems.

YAY! Okay so I read this as an ARC and I absolutely loved it. It had the perfect balance of fluff and angst (for me at least) and it had an actual conclusion. No cliffhangers here. Highly recommend!

The Rest of Us Just Live Here

Title: The Rest of Us Just Live Here
Author: Patrick Ness
Main Characters: Mike, Jared, Mel, Henna
Setting: unnamed town
Book Length: 317 pages
Summary: This group of friends are not the typical stars of any story. They are the boring, background characters that never get to share their side of the story- until now. Their stories are told parallel to the 'indie' kids and somehow they never manage to intersect. Something magical happens, these normal kids find out that ordinary can be extraordinary if you let it.

Ness does this incredible thing where he makes his characters organically relatable. It is amazing. Other than that, it was a decent storyline. A worthwhile read for sure.

Daughter of The Burning City

Title: Daughter of the Burning City
Author: Amanda Foody
Main Characters: Sorina, Luca
Setting: Gomorrah Festival
Book Length: 384 Pages
Summary: Sorina is a girl who can see without eyes. She can create illusions just by thinking them. Her family is made up of these illusions and, somehow, these illusions are being killed one by one. Sorina has to find out who is causing their deaths before any more of her family slip away.

Wow! I loved this book so much!!! I honestly don't think my summary does it justice. It has amazing characters filled with complexities and it includes LGBT+ characters, and the main character even suffers from panic attacks. The storytelling was amazing and it was (and I do not say this often) completely unpredictable. Foody had you looking in one direction and then she hits you with a completely different answer. It was absolutely amazing!!! This one is worth buying just for the amazing art, but you will honestly fall in love like I did with both the characters and the story.

Title: Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment
Author: James Patterson
Main Characters: Max, Fang, Iggy, Angel, Nudge, Gasman, Ari
Setting: America
Book Length: 420 pages
Summary: This group of kids is nowhere near an average person's definition of normal, nor are they a typical family. They are only 98% human- the other 2% is avian DNA. These kids have been experimented on since birth, and the interior of the 'school' is all they have ever known. Until Jeb rescues them and takes them to a safe house. But one day, a member of their flock is re-captured. This mutant family has to band together to save their family and they will stop at nothing.

I absolutely adored this book. It was unlike anything I had ever read before. It was a like a breath of fresh air, and that is what got me so invested in this series. The way this story is told really helps you to feel deeply about the characters and feel the need to know what happens next. I highly recommend this book because of how refreshingly different it is. And now the series is complete so you don't need to wait for any new releases!

Eliza And Her Monsters

Title: Eliza and Her Monsters
Author: Francesca Zappia
Main Characters: Eliza, Wallace
Setting: Westcliff, Indiana
Book Length: 383 pages
Summary: Eliza is the anonymous author of an internet comic known as Monstrous Sea. Through the massive popularity of her series, she has money and plenty of people to talk to online. In real life, she is an introvert and does not speak freely until Wallace (a fan of Monstrous Sea) shows up at her school. Together, they face their senior year and the very real problems of the world around them.

WOAH! I think the only books I have ever loved more than this one are the Hunger Games series and Some Kind of Happiness. This book was amazing. I fell in love from page one with Eliza. I related to her in so many ways and then Wallace came along and I fell in love with him, too! This book was amazing in so many ways, and I highly recommend it! The formatting was amazing as you felt you were participating in the forums and the chats, and you could see the Monstrous Sea story come alive. This book was just pure magic and such a quick read.
